Welcome! The U3AC Bulletin is emailed out to members every Wednesday. It contains the latest news, courses and events.

What’s on next week


Please note that as our premises are currently being hired out to a local language school, members may only visit the reception desk and not the other areas, including the social area, as they are in use.

New items


Course applications

Course allocation will take place shortly after 1 August, we recommend that your application is received in time for this.

Before allocation takes place may we suggest you login to your account to check all your chosen courses are showing correctly in “Courses selection (pending allocation)”. Once you have submitted your choices, the options are “locked down” and it will not be possible to make changes yourself. If any amendments are needed, please contact the Office and we will do this for you.

If you have paid but not submitted courses yet, please do so before 1 August.

 

Reminders – Courses


Choosing your courses for 2024-25

If you are applying for courses online, please check that you have submitted these – when you log in your choices should show as ‘pending allocation’. A substantial number of members have paid membership fees but not yet submitted any course choices. If you do not wish to apply for courses for whatever reason, please let us know and we will make a note on our records.

U3AC cycling group

The U3AC cycling group is open to all U3AC members, and we welcome riders of all abilities, and including those with electric bikes. Our rides are in small, friendly groups and we cycle between 12 and 30 miles, with a refreshment stop. We start from various locations in and around Cambridge. No commitment is required – you can join as many or as few rides as you wish. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact the co-ordinator, Derek Morris at u3ac.cyclingclub@gmail.com.

We have 10 rides planned for June and July, ranging between 15 and 30 miles. Full details of each ride and contact details for the ride leader can be found in the Rides Programme.

 

Reminders – Visits


Visit to Down House (Charles Darwin’s home)

A visit to Down House in Kent has been arranged for Tuesday 24 September. Cost £47.00 or £37.00 for English Heritage members. Application forms are now available from the Office and on the Trips and visits page of the website. Closing date for applications is Friday 16 August.

U3AC cycling group

The U3AC cycling group is open to all U3AC members, and we welcome riders of all abilities, and including those with electric bikes. As part of the U3AC Summer Programme, we are holding the Cycling Club Summer Picnic on Monday 5th August. We will be meeting near the Grounds Cafe in Milton Country Park, from 12.30. You can bring your own refreshments to the picnic, or purchase them from the cafe. We have planned 3 rides starting from various Cambridge locations, which will arrive at Milton Country Park in time for the picnic (see the rides programme for details). In addition, there is also a post-picnic ride that takes you back to Cambridge via the river and Mere Way. Members and potential members are welcome to come along – and you don’t even need to join one of the planned rides! Even if you choose not to ride, it will be good to see you!

Contemporary Dance Summer School

Cathy Middleton who runs U3AC’s contemporary dance workshops is running her own dance sessions during the summer. All the details can be found below. Please book your place by 29 July:

Time: 10:30-11:30

Dates: Tuesday August 6, 13, 20, 27

Thursday August 8,15, 22, 29

Cost: £20 FOR X 4 CLASSES

NB You can book for a mixture of days and weeks. For all x 8 classes you pay a reduced fee of £30
