Tim Pedley: Individual and collective behaviour of swimming microorganisms

Speaker: Professor Tim Pedley FRS Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge

Individual microswimmers use various mechanisms to make progress in what for them is a very viscous liquid (water). However, when a population of them is in suspension they can form a wonderful variety of patterns which can be examined in the lab and by fluid dynamic theory.
