Exploring the Sedgwick Museum (SCE 10(z))

  • Day and time: Tuesday 10:30 - 11:30
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Autumn (9 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 36
  • Start date: 18 October 2022
  • Description:

This course explores a selection of the Sedgwick Museum's geological and palaeontological treasures with zoom presentations and visits to the museum. The aim is to develop some self-led ‘tours’ that will be of interest and use to future visitors, especially adults with accompanying children. Initially, each zoom session will look at just one or two of the most impressive of the Museum’s prize objects eg the Barrington hippo and the William Smith map. From background information about each object, we will explore what an adult viewer would ask and what a child might ask about it, how much can be answered by looking at the object and what additional knowledge is needed. From this we will develop a self-led questionnaire that will be available for members to use as and when required. With limited space in the Museum, the course will be limited to 30 participants.
