This major exhibition explores how the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) became a global icon and a key influence on a generation of artists. Frida: The Making of an Icon traces Kahlo’s extraordinary rise from a relatively unknown painter to a worldwide cultural phenomenon and examines how Kahlo’s art and life have inspired generations of artists across diverse media, movements and communities around the world. Alongside Frida’s own paintings, treasured garments, jewellery, photographs and memorabilia, there are pieces by artists she inspired from across five generations, celebrating her lasting impact on those who continue to reimagine and reclaim her remarkable story, cementing her place as one of the most influential figures in the history of art.

We are booked into the exhibition in groups between 11.30 and 12.30.

The remainder of the day we are free to explore the gallery where there are artworks by Andy Warhol, Picasso, Matisse, Tracey Emin, Mark Rothko to name just a few. Also, check out the Turbine Hall exhibition for the new immersive, multisensory sound and sculpture installation by the Lebanese artist and composer Tarek Atoui.

Tate Modern has 3 café/espresso bars, a restaurant and, of course, a shop.
