A series of fortnightly conversations about ideas and issues relating to the history of the visual arts. Topics covered might range from the validity of a contentious artwork, to the dramas of the art market, the rise of feminist art, or reviewing a current local exhibition. Each session will include one or two provocations, in the form of short talks or films, but discussion will go wherever the group chooses to take it. Topics will be different to those covered during this course in the autumn 2025 semester. As the two terms progress, it is hoped that members of the class will propose and/or lead topics themselves. An interest in (but no in-depth knowledge of) art history is necessary. The course will be face-to-face only, and all group members will be encouraged to express their views.
