  • Day and time: Monday 11:45 - 12:45
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Spring (5 Weeks)
  • Vacancies: 0
  • Start date: 15 February 2027
  • Description:

Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes met at a party in Falcon Yard in Cambridge in 1956. She was already a published poet in America and he was returning to Cambridge at weekends after graduating from Pembroke two years earlier. They fell in love and married, living and writing in Cambridge until June 1957. This course moves on from last Spring's 'The Cambridge of Sylvia Plath & Ted Hughes', looking more closely now at the poetry the pair wrote whilst in Cambridge and about Cambridge. We will study and discuss Hughes's early animal poems and his very late poems looking at his relationship with Plath. Plath's Cambridge poems such as 'Watercolor of Grantchester Meadows' will also be explored.
