Literature and language challenge (Summer term) (LIT 28(z))

  • Day and time: Thursday 11:30 - 12:30
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 1 term. Summer (9 Weeks)
  • Vacancies: 11
  • Start date: 15 April 2027
  • Description:

Here is another opportunity to test your knowledge in the comfort of your home. Topics encompass adult and children's literature and feature aspects of the language such as spelling and expressions, plays ancient and modern, quotations and word games. In recent years activities have included changes in meaning, doctors, euphemisms, Jane Austen and Dickens characters, railways and stately homes. Some quizzes are emailed in advance (looking up the answers online will spoil the fun for you and for others). Others are issued in class, and a few are topics for discussion during the session. Most are new to U3AC; and those that have been in earlier programmes have not been aired for at least four years. The quizzes are intended for friendly rivalry, not fierce competition, and some are more challenging than others.

  • Format: Course or activity without teaching

  • Tutor: Jenny Knight
  • I enjoy devising quizzes for U3AC and other local organisations. A long career in publishing makes literature and language my favourite subjects.
