'It's Chess Gym (but not as we know it)'. Apologies to Mr. Spock. 'Gym' as something more formal than a chess club is intended. Basically a training regime aimed at improving practical play. Improvement, rather than play at a particular level, so anyone who knows the rules could participate. We will look at winning combinations, opening setups, middlegame strategies and endgame technique. We will also study master games to learn from and play each other in various formats. Whilst the culture and history of chess will, inevitably, not be absent, participants whose main interest is this rather than the over-the-board struggle will find the 'Chess Appreciation' course more appropriate. Note: There will be no class on 5 November.
