In this well-established group we read novels that reflect changes in the world during the twentieth century, taking turns to lead. The aim is to include literature written in (or translated into) English from a variety of genres and cultural backgrounds, and to consider their appeal today and when they were published. In October we begin with Nevil Shute's 'On the Beach'; read it in advance to join in the discussion. In November we turn to 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' by Muriel Spark. Together with members of the Zoom group, we devise a programme for later sessions that is based on members' suggestions. The two groups usually read the same books, but they are separate and there may be some variations. We plan to meet throughout the year.
