QGIS - the Quantum Geographical Information System - is a constantly updated freeware package used widely for producing good quality digital maps covering a wide range of activities. Over the last four years, members of the QGIS classes have produced maps for village walks, noticeboards and recording the local natural environment. Also detailed maps for local archaeology and three-dimensional images showing the impact of proposed planning decisions on the local landscape. Further maps have shown both historic and newly proposed railways. New members with some basic experience of computers will be welcome. They will be mentored by experienced members of the class and all are encouraged to choose and present their own projects, enabling mutual help and discussion. The classes are all practical sessions. Please bring a fully charged laptop with an external mouse.
