Food, energy and minerals of many types are vital to our survival. Some of these 'commodities' are readily available, but some are scarce and expensive. What distinguishes the one from the other? How is geopolitics shaping the supply and shortages of the basics we need to maintain our civilisation? This course will describe the underlying principles that drive the answer to these questions, using case studies such as hydrocarbons, rare earths, lithium, wheat, cocoa and other examples. The tutors have deep experience in evaluating a range of commodity industries, and how they are influenced by large companies, local politics and geopolitics.
