This writers' workshop is a friendly self-help group for people who enjoy writing - and who occasionally wonder why they ever started. Together, we share ideas, encouragement, and the comforting discovery that everyone else is also wrestling with commas, unruly plots, elusive words, and the occasional character who refuses to behave. Members work on a wide range of projects, from fiction and memoir to biography and creative non-fiction. Each week, four members read a short piece (around 1,500 - 2,000 words), while the rest listen and offer constructive feedback - think helpful suggestions rather than forensic editing. Along the way, we tackle the big questions: how to begin, shape a story, create believable characters, build a plot that goes somewhere, and write dialogue that sounds like something a human might actually say. The aim is to grow in confidence and skill. Vacancies permitting we welcome new members during the year.
