  • Description:

In this class we will be studying two classic novels of the Edwardian era: 'The Golden Bowl' by Henry James and 'The Good Soldier' by Ford Maddox Ford. Both novels explore the various relationships between two couples, examining the nature of consciousness as well as the fundamental unknowability of others and, ultimately, of our own selves. We will also consider these two novels in the context of the Edwardian period and the changes occurring in British and European society as they navigate the transition from the Victorian age to the eve of WWI and the true beginning of the 20th century.
