In 1631 Thomas Hobson left funds in his will to establish a Trust that would ensure that freshwater flowed into Cambridge for 1000 years. The Chalk stream that now bears his name is the subject of this programme of nine sessions using lectures, film and walks (NB over very uneven and slippery ground) along the course of Hobson's Brook. We will examine the history and national context behind this historic monument and will explore the role of the Hobson's Conduit Trust in managing the Chalk stream and its environs. We will consider the recent conservation and proposed restoration projects which aim to develop Hobson's Brook as an exemplar urban Chalk stream for the 21st century.
