We will make a close study of the letters of St Paul. Paul expresses profound spiritual truths in them. I shall offer a running commentary, and will seek to relate (and critique) Paul's Christianity to contemporary Ancient Greek thought and in particular the spirituality of Plato. Paul's letters to various churches, in the Eastern Aegean, represent his considered responses to various difficulties experienced by communities he had largely founded himself. This means that Paul's writings are 'occasional', and only disclose their theological depth in an allusive way (which we will tease out). His letter to the Roman church famously stands out as different, as this was one church he had not himself established. He gives as a result a more focused theological account, in this letter. Paul's letters are read out only in isolated paragraphs in church services: it is valuable to explore his wonderful spiritual insights in more depth.
