Can we learn from our remote ancestors? This course will be an extension of the introductory lecture series titled 'The Old European Civilization' from 2025 Autumn Term. Contrary to popular belief, civilization did not start at Sumer with its patriarchal hierarchy and beliefs. Instead, Old Europe represents a very different but just as authentic form of civilization, one with a highly developed egalitarian social structure based on a harmonious, artistic and agricultural economy. These ancient peoples were not simply governed by the principle of the survival of the fittest; they were peaceful and nature-centred. Topics will include Old European social structure, beliefs, ceramics, metal work, sacred sites, caves, temples, monuments, and some ancient signs and writings. During this course, we will also learn more about different areas of archaeology such as archaeo-mythology, archaeo-genetics, archaeo-astronomy, and archaeo-acoustics. No background training is required except your curiosity, enthusiasm and open mind.
