Migration has become such a politically charged issue that it is difficult to have a sensible conversation about it. Although it's a global issue, noise about 'small boats' crossing the English Channel drowns out the broader narrative in the press. This course will look at the bigger picture: Historic and geographic patterns of migration The impact on their destination countries Motivation of migrants to relocate (forced and voluntary), often in difficult circumstances. The migrant experience in their country of arrival. Different legislative frameworks adopted to manage the flows of people across the world. We'll look at the US, Europe, the UK and Australia. The format of the course will be mostly lectures, but I welcome discussion and to hear members' experiences of migration.
