Some operas can easily be labelled 'comedies'. Others may have comic content or even just one 'buffa' character. We will watch a selection of operas on dvd, contrasting alternative productions and exploring the comic content. Operas included will be Rossini's Barber of Seville and Le Comte Ory, Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, Mozart's Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, Verdi's Un Giorno de Regno and J. Strauss' Die Fledermaus.
