Speaker: John Keyworth
John will examine some of the sharply-penned cartoons and caricatures of the past two centuries which poke fun at that pillar of the Establishment, The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street.
John Keyworth, U3AC member and tutor, was Curator of the Bank of England Museum from 1986 until his retirement in 2013.
Speaker: Sir Paul Nurse FRS
Paul will consider the question “What is Life?” by discussing five great ideas of biology, ranging from the ‘Cell’ to ‘the Logic of Life’. These concepts set a direction of travel towards a definition of life.
Paul is the Director of The Francis Crick Institute, former President of the Royal Society and Nobel Laureate for Physiology or Medicine.
