  • Description:

    The aim of this course is to analyse Anglo-Irish relations during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and in particular the rise of Dublin in the 18th century. Consideration will be given to the emergence of Irish nationalism during this period and the challenges it posed to the Union with England - from the French Revolution and the Fenians to Parnell. There will also be an examination of the Great Famine of the 1840s, the resultant loss of the Irish language and mass emigration in the years that followed. Historical videos and music will be included.
