Women in the world (WOR 03)

  • Day and time: Wednesday 10:30 - 12:30
    Fortnightly
  • Length of course: 3 terms. Autumn (5 Weeks), Spring (5 Weeks), Summer (5 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 16
  • Start date: 12 October 2022
  • Description:

This group, now in its eleventh year, meets fortnightly to explore and discuss the place of women in the world. We look at women's achievements and what has held them back, in a wide range of different settings and periods. We start each class with a current affairs session where we look at present day issues. We then have a coffee break, followed by a presentation. Members of the group take it in turns to research and introduce a subject, though this is not an absolute requirement of membership. Specific topics presented will depend on the interests of members and what they can offer. Last year topics included Frida Kahlo, Beryl Markham, Forgotten Wives and a discussion on matriarchies. We hope to have outings in the summer term. Christmas and summer lunches will also be held in members' homes. Members will be asked for a small donation to cover the hire of the data projector for the year.
