Art in 15th-century Florence (ARTH 01)

  • Day and time: Monday 10:00 - 11:30
    Weekly
  • Length of course: 3 terms. Autumn (10 Weeks), Spring (10 Weeks), Summer (6 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 30
  • Start date: 10 October 2022
  • Description:

115th-century Florence has been intensively studied for around 150 years, thus deepening our understanding of one of the most fascinating periods in the history of art. I will aim to employ a multi-faceted approach. Lectures will be devoted to specific projects (e.g. sculpture for the Duomo) or genres (e.g tombs), or to individual painters and sculptors. Religious art and especially Marian images predominate; hence you will need to be sympathetic to them if you are to enjoy this course.
