    I am continuing my survey of Japanese cinema with the work of Kenji Mizoguchi, regarded as one of Japan's greatest fiilm directors. A protofeminist, many of his films were a critique of the place of women in Japanese society. Each week I will show one of his films, preceded by a short talk. I will also be circulating handouts in advance for those who wish to explore further.
