    Weekly
  • Length of course: 2 terms. Autumn (10 Weeks), Spring (10 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 20
  • Start date: 11 October 2022
  • Description:

Rudyard Kipling was the first Briton to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, in 1907 “in consideration of the power of observation and originality of expression”. He was also made an Honorary Fellow of Magdalene College. The group reads aloud in turn a selection of the works of Kipling, then discusses and reflects on the passages read. Kipling is the well-known author of ‘Kim', the poem ‘If’ and the ‘Jungle Books’. However, his writings were prolific and include many other lesser-known works, and we shall cover a range of these, including his poetry. Occasionally members of the group volunteer to make short presentations on relevant subjects.

  • Format: Reading group and discussion of works and context.

  • Organiser: John Rushton
