Twentieth-century Classics 2 (LIT 29)

  • Day and time: 1st Monday of the month throughout the year 14:20 - 15:20
  • Length of course: 3 terms. Autumn (3 Weeks), Spring (3 Weeks), Summer (3 Weeks)
  • Number of places: 12
  • Start date: 05 October 2020
  • Description:

This is a parallel course to 20th Century Classics 1, though it is likely that the books chosen by the two groups will be different. In 20th Century Classics 2 we will read and discuss twelve novels written in English and published between 1901 and 2000. We will try to have a representative selection of titles from each decade of the century, though much will depend on the suggestions and tastes of the members of the group, who will be encouraged to give a brief introduction to any book they suggest - but that's not an obligation. The final list of books for inclusion in the year's reading will be democratically chosen by members. For our first meeting in the Autumn we'll discuss J D Salinger: The Catcher in the Rye.

  • Format: Discussion

  • Coordinator: Robert Haining
  • Reading is a great pleasure, widened by discovering new authors recommended by others, deepened and enhanced by listening to the views of others.
