Leader: Margaret Nimmo-Smith
Day and time: Wednesday 2.00 - 4.00
Terms: Spring.

This group will study the Lord's prayer in the original Aramaic as Jesus would have spoken it. However it is not an academic study group but an opportunity to study the depth of meaning of each line, to do simple meditations and chants and even dance the lines. It is called Abwoon after the first word of the prayer: Father. We will be using material from Prayers of the Cosmos, by Neil Douglas-Klotz who has written the powerful dance cycle. It is an opportunity to partake on a spiritual journey with the Abwoon. For further information please contact the leader.

Day and time: Tuesday 3.00 - 4.15
Venue: Cambridge Buddhist Centre, 38 Newmarket Road CB5 8DT
Terms: Autumn.
Number of places: 20
Buddhist meditation is a way of helping us to explore our experience, and to respond creatively to what we find. With regular practice this simple activity can bring a host of benefits; more calm, less anxiety, better concentration, a richer experience, improved health, better understanding of yourself and others, and even more happiness.
Meditation has been widely explored for 2500 years by meditators living primarily in the East. It has more recently become available in the West, where people have started to be interested in meditation as an effective method of dealing with the pressures and difficulties of living. Though the meditations you will be introduced to originate from the Buddha, you don't have to subscribe to any particular belief system to practise meditation and experience its benefits.
The course will focus on two practices; the meditation on the breath, the Mindfulness of Breathing, and the meditation on the heart, the Metta Bhavana, or Loving Kindness Meditation. We shall also practise walking meditation and 'just sitting'. Please wear comfortable clothing. Local buses stop near the Cambridge Buddhist Centre and there is parking for a few cars.
