ART 01: ABSTRACT ART - DRAWING

The best way to learn about abstract art is to have a go and do it.  No conventional drawing skills required - just an open mind. The emphasis will be on experimenting to unlock your creativity.  This is a basic course for beginners to learn about composition, tone, balance, texture, mark-making, etc.  (We will not be exploring colour in this one-term course).
Bring 6 sheets of cheap A3 paper, pencils, rubber, newspaper and glue to first session.

ART 02: DRAWING FOR PLEASURE

The group will meet to indulge its interest in drawing.  Each person in turn brings a still-life subject.  There is no tutor.  We encourage each other.  Please supply your own paper and pencils.

ART 03: EXPLORING FORM AND COLOUR

This course will encourage members to explore form and colour.  This will be done first through working with form, subsequently colour, combining them as the course develops.  Pencil, charcoal, pastels and acrylic paints will each be used at some stage.  Course members will be encouraged to discuss their own techniques and enthusiasms, with the tutor and with each other.  Course members' preferences for the type of medium to be used will also be taken into account as the sessions develop.  Each term's outline programme will be provided at the start.  However, depending on members' interests and strengths some flexibility can be expected within it.  Members will be required to provide their own materials for sessions.  Advice on choosing these will be offered.

ART 04: THE HUMAN FIGURE

This is a self-help group for people with any level of ability and experience.  Most weeks there will be an unclothed model and during each term there will be male and female models.  There is a charge to cover the cost of the models which will be collected from each member of the class at the beginning of each term.  No equipment or materials are provided.  Members use a variety of techniques including pencil, charcoal, pastel and coloured washes.  There is car parking at the Scout HQ and in adjacent roads.

ART 05: JUST DRAWING

This will be a practical foundation drawing course for beginners and those who believe they cannot draw.  It is an introduction to learning to see and observe - and translating our observations into drawing.  During the course you will experiment with various techniques and drawing media and also look at the drawings of famous artists and their methods/techniques.  The course will give you confidence and a base on which to build and to develop your own work.  You will find it is possible to draw.  Please bring an A2 cartridge sketch pad, pencils and any other drawing materials you may have.

ART 06: PAINTING GROUP (MONDAY)

This is a self-help group of all abilities.  We have the Village Hall in which to paint using a variety of media.  Grantchester offers the opportunity to paint outdoors when the weather is good.  A small charge is made for visiting artists and other expenses.
NB: The Class will not meet on Monday 7th May, but will meet on Monday 28th May.

ART 07: PAINTING GROUP (WEDNESDAY)

This is a self-help painting group.  During the winter term, or in bad weather, still-life subjects could be set up, or there could be voluntary models, or painting from sketches, photographs, etc.  In better weather there are numerous subjects to paint in Grantchester village, or by the river, using the Village Hall as a base.  Occasional demonstrations are given if requested.

ART 08: PAINTING TO THE CLASSICS

We are a group of like minded people who paint while classical music is playing.  There is no teaching available but artists beyond beginner stage are welcome.  It is a pleasant morning in the company of others who enjoy painting.  Oil and pastel based media cannot be used owing to the light coloured wood floor.

This course is a continuation of previous courses in the series.   It is designed to teach the techniques of drawing with pencil or pen and ink and of painting in watercolour.
The course meets Friday mornings 10.00 - 12.00 except the 3rd Friday of the month when they meet from 2.00 - 4.00.  The first meeting on 14th October will be at 10 am.
