ART 01: Abstract Art - Level 2

This is the second year of a practical course developing an understanding of abstract painting by doing it. Our aim is to progress towards producing finished work for a group exhibition. Completion of first year is essential for applicants to this course.

ART 02: Drawing and Painting 1 & 2

Tutor: Gerda Goddard
Day and time: Tuesday 2.00 - 5.00
Venue: Arbury Community Centre, Campkin Road
Terms: Autumn, spring, summer.
Number of places: 25
This course will include tutorials in techniques such as landscape, life drawing, portrait painting and drawing, still life and creating paintings from collages. People with all levels of ability are welcome to join. Students are required to pay a small charge at the beginning of each term to cover costs of materials, models, etc. Some materials are available, but students will need to provide their own equipment. We will be using different media as per example, water colours, acrylics, charcoal, etc. and when you attend a class, you will be informed about the next week's project, so that you will know what to bring along with you for the next class.
For the first session: Please make sure you bring along medium charcoal sticks, cheap hairspray, cleaning cloth, white tack, pencil, ear buds, kneaded eraser, pencil sharpener, a roll of masking tape, about 1" wide, and a drawing board, big enough to take an A3 size paper. Paper will be supplied.
Note: Autumn 6 wks 19 October - 23 November. Spring 8 wks 25 January - 15 March.
Summer 8 wks 26 April - 14 June.

ART 03: Drawing for Pleasure

The group will meet to indulge its interest in drawing. Each member in turn brings a still-life subject. There is no tutor. We encourage each other. Please supply your own paper and pencils.

ART 04: The Human Figure

This is a self-help group for people with any level of ability and experience. Most weeks there will be an unclothed model and during each term there will be male and female models. There is a charge to cover the cost of the models which will be collected from each member of the class at the beginning of each term. No equipment or materials are provided. Members use a variety of techniques including pencil, charcoal, pastel and coloured washes. There is car parking at the Scout HQ and in adjacent roads.

ART 05: Painting Group (Monday)

This is a self-help group of all abilities. We have the Village Hall in which to paint, using a variety of media. Grantchester offers the opportunity to paint outdoors when the weather is good. A small charge is made for visiting artists and other expenses.

This is a self-help painting group. During the winter term, or in bad weather, still-life subjects could be set up, or there could be voluntary models, or painting from sketches, photographs, etc. In better weather there are numerous subjects to paint in Grantchester village, or by the river, using the Village Hall as a base. Occasional demonstrations are given if requested.

ART 07: Painting to the Classics

We are a group of like minded people who paint while classical music is playing. There is no teaching available but artists beyond beginner stage are welcome. It is a pleasant morning in the company of others who enjoy painting. Oil and pastel based media cannot be used owing to the light coloured wood floor.

ART 13: Sketching and Drawing for Beginners - year 1

This course is aimed primarily at beginners, but may suit those who wish to improve basic techniques. Initially we shall cover foundation drawing skills and progress through the year to discuss and experiment with various media. Note: the initial class will be in the form of an introductory meeting to discuss the course and the equipment required to start. Please try to attend.

ART 15: Summer Sketching Group (summer term)

Any standard, the group meets every Wednesday in June and July, unless it rains heavily, at a different location each week. Bring your own drinks and lunch - the group meets up for lunch at 12.30 and people can leave then if they do not wish to sketch or paint in the afternoon. The class will be informed of the first location.
Note: Starts 1st June.

ART 16: Watercolour Painting Plus

Watercolour painting for beginners and improvers. We shall continue to develop basic watercolour techniques working from still life studies and members’ own sketches.
