How to submit an entry for this website or to suggest a topic for research

The U3AC Council hopes that this website will serve to facilitate contacts between U3AC members and others. On this page, we provide advice for people wishing to add information to the site. Any proposed entry should be sent in an email to the office. In any such email, you should make clear under which of the following categories your entry should be included.

Ongoing or proposed projects led by people who are seeking active collaborators
Ongoing experimental projects seeking volunteers to serve as subjects
Reports on projects which have involved U3AC members as active collaborators
U3AC members offering their services as collaborators or subjects in a research project
Reports on projects which have involved U3AC members as volunteer subjects

Ongoing or proposed projects led by people who are seeking active collaborators
Please provide enough information about your project to enable a potential volunteer collaborator to understand what is involved, e.g. the overall objective of the study, any particular skills you are seeking in potential collaborators, the likely time commitment. You may wish to propose one or two dates/times for meetings at which you will discuss the project with potential collaborators. Please provide your name, email address and phone number in order to enable people to contact you.

Ongoing experimental projects seeking volunteers to serve as subjects
Please provide enough information about your project to enable a potential volunteer subject to understand what is involved, e.g. the overall objective of the study, where the study is based, the amount of time involved, the kind of people you seek as volunteers (are any people excluded?), financial rewards (if any), link (if any) to the project’s website, name, email address and, if you wish, phone number of person to be contacted.

Reports on projects which have involved U3AC members as active collaborators
If research has involved the active participation of U3AC members as collaborators it is very useful if brief reports can be provided detailing what has been achieved and, in particular, how U3AC members contributed towards that achievement. Any such reports should be submitted by the Lead Investigator, and a name, contact details and a date should be provided.

Any such reports that appear on the U3AC website will carry a “health warning” stating that the contents of the report are the responsibility of the named Lead Investigator, and are not formally endorsed by U3AC.

Reports on projects which have involved U3AC members as volunteer subjects
Many of the U3AC members who have served as volunteers for research projects are naturally very interested to know how the project is progressing and/or what the final outcome of the project has been. The information could be provided in the form of a brief report, or as a link to a website where the information (perhaps in the form of a paper published in a journal) is provided. It is helpful if the name(s) and contact details of the lead investigator(s) can be provided, and the report should be dated. In any published account of the project, it would be much appreciated if specific reference were made to the help given by volunteers from the University of the Third Age, Cambridge.

Any such reports that appear on the U3AC website will carry the following note:
“The above report is the responsibility of its author; its contents and any opinions expressed are not formally endorsed by the University of the Third Age, Cambridge.”

U3AC members offering their services as collaborators or subjects in a research project
If you would like to offer your services as a research collaborator, please provide your name and contact details, and indicate, if applicable, what particular area of research is of interest to you. You may also wish to provide some indication of any particular skills (e.g. statistical expertise, computer literacy, questionnaire design, database management, publishing experience) that you can offer. Participation is a research project is likely to be much easier for you if you have access to e-mail.

Linking with the University

There is an office within the University of Cambridge that is willing to receive proposals from organisations for research topics that might, for example, be suitable for an undergraduate or graduate student dissertation. If you would like such a proposal to be submitted on your behalf to the relevant office in the University of Cambridge, please send details to the U3AC office with the subject heading “Research suggestion”. We would normally forward any reasonable suggestions on the assumption that you would be willing to be contacted if someone wished to act on your proposal.
