* U3AC Cycling Club
A list of rides for this autumn has been drawn up. If you would like to lead some rides, please let us know quickly - we will be circulating the list to members at the beginning of August.

2010 Cambridge Summer Music Festival
The festival runs from 16 July to 7 August and includes around 30 concerts in some of the City and University’s finest locations. The Academy of Ancient Music will be performing Monteverdi’s magnificent ‘Vespers of 1610’ in King’s College Chapel, Julian Lloyd Webber will be talking about his career and playing in Fitzwilliam College and there is much else besides. Programmes are available in the foyer.

U3AC and Research
Towards the end of 2009, the U3A Council set up a research committee. We held two meetings, and the upshot of our discussions was the expansion of the U3AC website: http://www.u3ac.org.uk/ such that there is now a "tab" on the homepage, and if you click it, you get taken to a page which offers a range of options. One of these options enables you to place an entry advertising the kind of research you want to carry out (assuming you are willing to take the lead in running a project), and specifying the kind of collaborators you are seeking. You can also register your interest in getting involved in a research project in a non-leading role, by adding your name to a list of ‘would-be researchers’ which will be kept on file in the U3AC office. Our aim was to create a kind of ‘on-line dating agency’ for would-be researchers. The success of this approach clearly depends on active participation by members. So, take a look at the ‘Research’ area of the U3AC website, and get involved!

* The Countryman
I have past issues of this for various years between the 1960s and the present time to dispose of. In good condition.

* Course for retired people - 'Putting Order Into Chaos'
Members may be interested in the following course being held at the Institute of Continuing Education, Madingley Hall on 10-12 September 2010. The course covers change and how best to cope with it based on recent research and practical exercises. Losing the familiar structure of work and colleagues can be a shock for many people and they find it difficult to adjust. Some people, especially men, see their identity and value wrapped up with work and feel the loss when they retire. The same applies to those made redundant or who have lost a partner. In the course we shall look at how the brain interprets reality (the biological and psychological influences), learn ways to improve our mental and physical energy levels, meet new people and create fresh goals to begin a new phase in life.
It costs £350 full board Friday evening till Sunday lunchtime (incl) or £240 for non residents. For further information contact Madingley Hall. Tel: 01223 746222.
